Aunt Shannon's

Aunt Shannon was so great to let Garrett color Easter Eggs at her house on Saturday. She brought home a special coloring table from her preschool just for Garrett to color his eggs! He was so excited about coloring the 36 eggs Shannon had cooked...lots of eggs. He had to concentrate really hard on each egg to decide which color he wanted it to be and once he ran out of white eggs and decided he wasn't done so the already colored eggs went back in for more, who cares if yellow now needs to be blue! Kids are so funny. After coloring eggs he went outside to feed the real bunny and the Linny look alike (the Guinea Pig from the Wonder Pets).

Gannon's First Hotel Stay

Gannon went on his first weekend trip to visit his family at the beach. Heather and Juan are always so great to invite us to stay but since Gannon isn't sleeping totally through the night and there are 4 of us now we decided a suite at the hotel would be better. So Gannon and I took the room and daddy and Garrett took the soft bed. A whole king bed all to myself sounds great, but hotel pillow suck and I do like having my husband next to me. Dave didn't enjoy our 2 year old that kicks and turns all night on the small sofa pullout. Traveling sure changes when you add a couple kids to the mix!!! Gannon did great for his first trip away from home. He slept from around 8:30 to 5 and would wake for a small snack and go right back to bed till 7. I can't complain for a three month old. He is such a sweet little guy. This picture was taken the first night and I think the clock said 7:18 in the picture, he did wake one extra time the first night - still no complaints here...

Shell Beach Easter Egg Hunt

We drove down to Pismo Beach Friday to spend Easter weekend with Dave's family. Shell Beach was having a community Easter Egg Hunt for the kids on Saturday so we met up with Aunt Shannon and Uncle Joe to take the boys. Garrett had a blast hunting for eggs and spent I swear an hour playing the bubble area. He didn't care that there was face painting and a bounce house and surely didn't want anything to do with going to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap!!! Gannon as always was a great little guy to just go with the flow for the day.

Easter Eggs

Garrett is old enough this year to color Easter eggs so tonight we did our first egg dye event with him. He saw all the mugs and said "coffee, coffee", so we had to explain that we were going to put eggs in the mugs. Because he knows his colors this year too it made it more fun to hear him get excited about the color of the eggs. It's a good thing the mugs we used were shallow because he didn't quite understand that the egg shells are fragile and just kinda threw the eggs in the mugs, even if there was already an egg in the mug! None the them broke so we were good there. We are headed to Shell Beach tomorrow to spend Easter with Dave's family so we will do more eggs there, I'm sure he'll be excited now that he knows what to do.

Medical Trauma

Tuesday mid day Gannon had pencil eraser size bumps appear on his arm and the freak that I am about this child's medical (I am the same with Garrett) I of course called our pediatrician right away. The nurse explained that any rash the doctor wants to see so please bring him in. By the time our afternoon appointment came around there were lots more bumps on poor little Gannon's arms and legs. The only thing that came to mind being different is that we started to add formula to Gannon's diet last week and so I was sure that was the issue. The doctor confirmed that was not the issue and asked if anything else had changed. I then remember that I was taking amoxicillin for the great sinus infection that I had gotten the week prior. She thought for a minute and explained that she had never seen the drug pass to child through milk and cause this type of allergic reaction, but she would confirm and give me a call. So that night I switched Gannon (after paging our poor doctor to consult) to formula and by morning is old bumps now appeared to be bruises and he had tons more bumps. So back to the phone I go, our wonderful doctor sent Gannon for blood work and within 1 1/2 she called to confirm that our little guy is HIGHLY allergic to penicillin. Good news is after 24 hours of a formula diet he is all cleared up. I'm so glad we discovered this with a very small amount of the medicine through my milk and it was not given directly to him, can you imagine the reaction then! Never a dull moment at our house…

Stranger Shock

Here's another update of our Saturday's with dad at contests. Managing two kids is getting easier with Dave gone. It does help that last weekend Garrett and I drove to Modesto to attend the awards ceremony so we got out of the house and this weekends contest was held in Merced. The past few years Dave and a few other teachers have used our house to do the tabs, but this year they have a new system that is faster so Dave brought his team here to have lunch and relax before the awards. Garrett and Gannon were napping when they arrived and were so quiet I didn't even hear any of the kids (great kids by the way). Garrett takes a while to warm up once he wakes from his nap and when extra people are here it makes the process even slower so when he saw six big kids sitting in the family room he was in shock. I swear he was glued to me and the floor for almost 45 minutes, I told Dave he might have to rotate kids to send my way for help on the weekends (just kidding). Garrett finally warmed up enough to join Dave and I for a hamburger bun then spent about 20 minutes squeezed between the fridge and the wall (a new trick). Garrett's shock wore off as you can see below he was very open to having someone new to color with!

Dave’s team continues to do very well at the contests – they placed 1st again this weekend with the 1st and 2nd high individuals. Keep your fingers crossed for a win on May 2nd at Cal Poly!
