The Giants game was next on our agenda for the weekend and the boys were so excited. Dave likes to take the boys every year to a Sunday Giants game because they can run the bases after the game. Garrett is playing on the Giants for T-Ball this year and as become a HUGE baseball fan. We rode the bart and Muni to get to the game from Pleasanton and that was more exciting than the game to Gannon. I thought the boys would love to play on the big Coke slide at the game and it was fun, once! Garrett just kept asking to go back to his seat so he could watch the game. It was cute. Gannon was his crazy little self with his blankie and sideways hat. The entire time his hat was on it had to be off to the side. Don't know where that came from, but it's how he wanted it. Garrett's favorite part of the game when we asked at the end was running the bases, Gannon's was riding the Muni! Fun day with funny boys!

Pleasanton Half Marathon
When we planned our summer trip Dave saw that the Missoula Marathon (half for me) was taking place while we would be in Montana. After thinking for a long time I decided that I was a little nervous for that to be my first one because of the higher elevation. I thought I try to plan one prior to our trip.
A friend from work is a seasoned half marathon runner and sent me the link to the Pleasanton Half Marathon hoping we would do it together. Since spring is Dave's busy time of the year I told her it would have to be a Sunday race so he could be home with the boys. Well, it ended up that she couldn't do this weekend after all, but it was also Dave's weekend off of judging teams prior to State Finals. Perfect!
After contemplating, I decided to go for it!!! We booked a hotel and thought we'd make a weekend of it. I had a few weeks to up my miles and train for the distance. I'd done 10 miles runs in the weeks prior so I wasn't concerned about the first 10, but was a little nervous about adding 3 more. It should be no surprise that I'm not a "gel" person for the boost of energy during the runs, I want to do it all natural. This too made me nervous, do I really need the gels for energy?, can I really do this? Two weeks prior to the race I ran a great 12 mile run. Faster pace than my normal runs and I had no idea what I did different, but whatever! The week prior to the race Dave was out of town for the entire weekend so in order to get a run in I had a babysitter come over on Sunday morning. I didn't want to get her up too early so I didn't start running until around 8 and it was quite a warm morning that day = crappy 8 mile run! Pace still was under a 9 minute mile, but dang was it hot. This made me more nervous for the 13.1 mile run I had signed up for.
With lots of self talk, I told myself "whats 1.1 more miles to your run!" Actually let me back track, at a book exchange I picked up the book, "Ultramarathon Man" by Dean Karnazes. What a motivating book! If he can run 200 miles in one race, I could surely do 13.1!
The day prior to the race we drove over to the bay area and did some shopping. When I had the good 12 mile run a couple weeks back I had eat some Wetzel Pretzel bites and thought maybe they were the carb load that I needed. So I grabbed some at the mall. For dinner I didn't feel like much so I had a baked sweet potato and a small slice of pizza.
Race day, I got up at 5 and sat in the hotel bathroom eating my oatmeal, a few bites of banana and having my coffee. I know in the bathroom! I didn't want to wake Dave and the boys. Dave Sr. offered to picked me up at 6 and give me a ride so the boys could sleep in. We got to the park a little early so he stay and hung out in the car with me for a bit.
2,000 racers lined up in the time slots that fit their running and I seeded myself in between the 2 hour and the 2:10 pacers. This meant I planned to finish someone between 2 hour to 2:10 race time. Put the music and run! I honestly couldn't even tell you who was around me or where we went, I just ran! Spacing into la la land and every once in a while thinking of Dean Karnazes words of encouragement, "one foot in front of the other". I had told myself I was "running" a half marathon so that meant NO walking! There were a couple of times I wanted to walk, but the though quickly left my mind and I ran the entire race. Dave, Dave Sr. and the boys were at the finish line to cheer me on as I finished.
2:04:56 was my finishing time! Under a 9 minute mile average and I was happy with that!
As soon as I finished, Garrett wanted to pretend race with me. I couldn't run anymore! Sorry Buddy Mom is tired!
I am so glad I did this run and after my back never hurt! See and it would have listened to the doctor I would have never reached my goal! Push through injuries as Dean Karnazes does and do what you do - RUN!!!
Still undecided for the Missoula Half!

Easter
As Garrett and Gannon get older I get lazier with my pictures. I guess this is a normal trend as kids grow, but I really want to be better at snapping pictures. I didn't any any pictures of their Easter baskets and none of all four of us. So here's what I got. Baskets at Grandma and Papa's and the hunt! Garrett and Gannon were equally excited for the egg hunt and really could care less about what is inside the egg, they just want to find lots of eggs. Grandma was awesome and filled the eggs with stickers, fun erasers, and even coins! A few had eggs, but not many and that's perfect for our allergy guy and really the whole house!
Gannon's friend from EduCare, Owen, and his Mom and Grandma joined us for our BBQ and egg hunt. It's fun to watch the little guys run around hunting for eggs and fun for the boys to have someone else to play with.
Uncle Bob made his awesome BBQ chicken, potato and macaroni salad for us all to enjoy. Fun family and friend filled day!

Gramma Toni and Aunt Shannon Visit
Gramma Toni and Aunt Shannon came for a quick overnight visit to see the boys and our new house. I was out of town on a girls shopping trip with my Mom and sister so they truly came to see all the boys! They had so much fun and love when they get to see Gramma Toni and Aunt Shannon!
Coloring Eggs
Even though Gannon can't eat eggs, he had a great time coloring them! Garrett loves this art project every year so it was no surprise that he kept asking when we would cook and color the eggs. On Wednesday I explained that I would cook them on Thursday and Friday morning we would color them. Garrett is a very scheduled child so you can tell him a date or day of the week that something will happen and when he tears the calendar day off and it gets to that date he will remember that is the day "whatever" is supposed to happen. (he keeps a calendar in his room!) Anyway, it was Thursday and he wanted to know when the eggs would be cooked, after dinner Garrett. Sure enough after dinner he wanted to see the eggs cooking. Friday morning when they woke up I was at the gym, but as soon as I came home I got all the stuff ready and called them to the table. Garrett was so excited! Gannon was his rough little self as was practically throwing the eggs into the cups! Who cares if they break, right!?! And yes, several of his did. Whatever! Gannon was good at coloring his and pulling them out, rolling them on his paper towel to dry them, and put them in his drying rack. Garrett on the other hand was more patient to get a deeper color on his eggs and of course very careful to keep his paper towel very clean! True form for both boys personalities. It is fun to watch how different they are. Next year I think I need to offer to color eggs for the entire neighborhood because two dozen eggs doesn't take long to color!

Bowling
Bowling was also on our list of To Do's during Spring Break. Garrett talked the entire way to the bowling alley about how he had been bowling when he was three and how he had a Mickey Mouse cake there too! Yes, it was where we had Garrett's 3rd birthday party. Man did they have fun bowling, with bumpers of course. They did great taking turns sharing the light weight ball and waiting their turn for each of the family to go. We explained that they had to wait for their name to appear on the screen and they were very good to watch and wait for their name. For the record...Mommy beat Daddy! Okay, just by one point! It was fun and they were sad when we had to leave.

Yosemite/Snow Day
Dave and I had talked about taking the boys to the snow and to Yosemite over our Spring Break and I was a little hesitant because I think I was traumatized by our snow trip a couple of years ago! Okay I know, get over it and go again. After looking at the week ahead we decided Sunday would be the best day. Dave found that Badger Pass has a little tube area so that was the plan.
We loaded up the car and off we went. We are so thankful that we live within a couple hours of such a beautiful place. I honestly think this was Gannon's first time to Yosemite and Garrett had been a couple of times. They both loved it. The walk to Yosemite Falls was a little wet, but of course Gannon loved the puddles! Garrett and Gannon loved the snow and kept having Daddy make them snow balls. Gannon walked more than half the way back with the same snow ball gently balanced in his hand. Unusually for this guy to be so calm and gentle, but I guess for a snow ball it was worth it.
After eating lunch we headed over to Badger Pass to rent the tubes and have some good old snow fun. Garrett was a little cautious as always to start tubing, but when he realized he would be riding with one of us he was fine. Sitting on our bums was how it started then of course Dave tried to talk them into going on their bellies. Garrett wanted no part of that...until Gannon did a few runs with Dad and he could see that it was really okay and fun. Then Garrett gave it a shot and he too was in love. Gannon is definitely our little dare devil, willing to try whatever! I think if we would have walked the tubing hill all night they would have been content. It was a great fun family day!
